How much coverage should we have?
As much as you would like. In my experience, most couples choose around 6 hours but you can have more or less if you want. For intimate weddings I can cover up to 4 hours. Elopements can be as little as 2 hours coverage. I do love those little weddings in the bush with a handful of guests so contact me with your thoughts on coverage. We can have a chat to work out something to suits your needs.
What do we receive?
Loads! I offer 3 Collections and each includes all your photographs from the day in both print ready (high resolution) and web quality (low resolution).
I’m passionate about people printing their wedding photographs so I don’t believe digital files are a collection of photographs. My Studio is about the art of printing. I offer Fine Art Prints and beautiful Fine Art Handmade Books, professionally designed and printed. All my work is finished on museum-grade 100% cotton photographic rag, which is a high-quality fine art paper that will last for generations. Printing is what photography is all about!
The Élite Collection contains a Fine Art Book, Wall Art and prints. Fine Art Books can be order in the other Collections before or after the wedding. I can arrange any other enlargements, printing and framing you want.
I work with a professional lab in Melbourne who print your wall art on museum-grade fine art paper and your frame is assembled by hand locally. Organic Stone Prints are lovingly handmade in Melbourne and my beautiful flush mounted fine art albums are also handmade in Australia. Each piece I produce is of the highest professional standard, has a low carbon footprint and is unique to every couple. I’m all about local and I won’t compromise on quality. All my suppliers are from Australia, with 99% of them from Victoria.
Do you edit or photoshop?
I edit all your photos, which includes colour correction, black and white selection, retouching to remove minor blemishes and get your photos print ready. I deliver very natural photographs that are not heavily touched.
In addition, I can offer premium photo retouching services for an additional fee. Specialist retouching is per image and is limited due to the volumes of files delivered in a Collection.
How do we receives all that?
I send you a link to your private online gallery which contains your portraits and your slideshow. I give you the option to download High Res (print ready) files from your gallery if you are trying to lessen your carbon footprint and would prefer I don’t post out a USB. I can arrange for your prints and Fine Art Book to be shipped to your directly from my print lab in Melbourne or I can hand deliver if that works out for us both.
Do you shoot engagements, elopements + other small events like that?
YES! The Daylesford Macedon region is a great place for an elopement. Contact me for a chat about what you’re planning. I’m happy to be a part of the surprise, the elopement or whatever it is you are planning.
Do you believe same-sex couples should marry?
YES! Same-sex, all the sexes!
Let’s start planning some epic weddings 🌈
Posing. We’re not so keen. How do we work around that?
I get that. Posing is a tough gig for some. However, I’m into documenting people, especially those in love, and that’s more about connection than it is about poses. There are details and moments that help define a wedding and my style of photography is relaxed, fun, natural and unobtrusive. I’m pretty chilled and like to have a laugh so hopefully that helps you relax. It’s less about me taking photos of you and more about me hanging around with you and capturing you in the moment. When the day comes, I will chat with you, have a laugh with you and make you feel comfortable while directing you a little when needed so you’re not standing there feeling awkward. Mostly though, I’m about documenting the day so we can put together an epic retelling of your wedding. Seriously, don’t worry, it’s all good fun and we’ll get some beautiful photographs that truly reflect who you are.
Can you help us with timelines and planning? Like, what’s the best time for our ceremony if it’s outdoors and how long should we leave for the portrait session?
Yes. Generally, the best time for an outdoor ceremony is 2-3 hours before sunset. Planning for around this time ensures the sunlight falls more evenly on the skin and there are no harsh shadows.
How long we need depends on what you want from your portraits. About an hour for your portrait session if you have a bridal party and are on property so don’t need to travel anywhere. If you guys are flying solo, then about 30-45 minutes is loads of time to create some magic. The best way to plan your portrait session time is to find out when sunset is for your date, and then count backwards. I help with with your timeline from the beginning.
Contact me for a chat and we’ll work it out.
Do you travel and do you charge for travel?
Yes and depends. If the location is around 1-2 hours’ drive from Daylesford, then there is no additional travel fee. More than 2 hours away then it might be a modest fee. Or you could send me home with loads of cake …. let’s chat and work something out.
Do you bring a second photographer?
I love your thinking. I can absolutely bring a second professional photographer so every angle is covered throughout the day. It’s a small fee for an awesome add on. If you’re having a very large wedding, with guest numbers over 100, then I strongly recommended a second photographer to ensure nothing is missed. My Élite Collection comes with a second shooter already booked in. Contact me for more info.
Do you need food?
Yes please, if I am with you over lunch/dinner/canapés then that would be fab. If I have a second with me it would be great if you included her/him/they too. If you feed me/us at the same time as your guests then we won’t be tempted to photograph people eating. Joking ..no one wants unflattering food-eating-photos!
Are you qualified? Are you insured? Do you have backup equipment?
Yes to all. I hold a Bachelor of Photography. I have backup gear, I back up your images at all stages of my workflow and I hold public liability insurance. I’m a professional photographer and Ash + Elm Studios only works with other professionals.
Do you offer videography?
I don’t. Ash + Elm Studios only offer photography.
Can you recommend other vendors?
Yes. I love working with local, ethically minded businesses. I can put you in contact with vendors using in season flowers, or locally sourced in season food. Let me know what you’re looking for and I can hook you up. I am a proud member of Less Stuff More Meaning to help clients strive to be Mindfully Wed
I’ve got a little something for everyone, starting at $2500. I offer personalised quoting for smaller celebrations so contact me for a detailed pricing and availability.
How do we book you?
We’ll chat, we’ll click and then we’ll do the paperwork. It’s 30% to secure the date and the balance a month before the wedding.
Can we meet with you?
Let’s do this! I’d love to meet with you for a chat to hear all about you, how you met and what your plans are for your wedding day. If meeting up in person is not possible because you are a million miles away from me, then we can Skype/Messenger or just chat on the phone.
Hang on. What are your values and do you have an ethos you work by?
I run a small, sustainable business. I pay a fair wage to the professionals who work for me. I believe in equality but understand that the wage gap is real and women don’t receive a fair wage or don’t have access to secure, paid jobs. Therefore I give 5% from each booking to CARE Australia to help create a world that is more equal for women and girls.
I know where all my products comes from and all my suppliers are local artisans. I love working with clients that engage in conscious consumerism when planning their wedding. I work locally to reduce my carbon emissions and my car is offset through Green Fleet. I work with like minded vendors who supply in season, chemical free flowers or food which is produced with the least amount of environmental impact, for example.
Personally, I am a vegetarian with veggie gardens and fruit trees. I’m involved in a community group that promotes homemade/ homegrown food, produce, seeds and skills to swap and share. No money changes hands. I volunteer my photography services and other professional skills – retouching, design etc – to local not-for-profit, community groups. I shop locally and in-bulk, reducing my waste and supporting locals who value the environment and minimise their waste.
I am an immigrant. I just happen to be a white, native English speaking immigrant and that gives me a privilege not offered to everyone. I don’t care where people were born, what gender they were born or to whom they choose to love. We are all equal and we all deserve the same respect – and pay!
Why am I telling you all this? Because we have one life – and planet – and it’s not all about fast throw-away consumption. We’re all in this together so I don’t care where you come from, what you look like, identify as or who you are in love with. I want you to have an amazing experience with me and I want you to have photographs for your lifetime. If you have people coming after you, then I want them to have your photos and I want them to be able to pass them on. I want the product you buy from me to be an authentic heirloom, produced ethically and I want a clear conscience, true transparency, in selling you that product.
We’ve got a question that’s not answered here.
Seriously!? Joking! Drop me an email and I’ll help you out hello (at) ash and elm studios
